The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced on Thursday that it would impose stricter practical tests for motorcyclists seeking to obtain a driver’s license, following the catastrophic accident along Marilaque Highway.
LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II reasoned in an interview that in some testing sites, prospective drivers are only told to move the vehicle backwards and forwards to pass the test.
Areas for practical driving courses all across the country have been picked out, he said, with major cities as the agency’s current focus.
Mendoza said he is also looking to have road safety integrated into school curriculums to instill commuter responsibility and the proper mindset for driving early on.
A recent, fatal collision between two motorcyclists racing at high speeds along the curving Marilaque Highway killed one and left seven injured.
Senator JV Ejercito had already prompted police to put up checkpoints in the area.
