The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a strong warning to the public against riding "colorum" or unauthorized public utility vehicles (PUVs), citing major safety risks and legal concerns.
LTO-NCR Regional Director Roque Verzosa III stressed not to try and avoid riding in colorum vehicles that operate secretly and without terminals.
This reminder comes as thousands of travelers continue to return to their home provinces during the Holy Week season.
Furthermore, he reiterated that colorum vehicles do not undergo proper safety inspections and lack insurance coverage, putting passengers at serious risk in the event of accidents.
The LTO emphasized that passengers may not be able to claim any compensation or insurance in case of an accident involving a colorum PUV.
Verzosa further stated that the operator of the colurum vehicle avoided government regulations, taxes, and safety checks.
Therefore, the agency encouraged the public to report any suspected colurum activities to the authorities.
