The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the registered owner of an SUV whose driver was caught making a vulgar hand gesture in a viral road rage video, the agency said on Monday.
In the video, the said vehicle can be seen counter-flowing on a solid double yellow lane. When apparently blocked, the SUV driver lashed out at another motorist and held up his middle finger. He also threatened to step out of the vehicle to confront them.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said the show cause order would enable authorities to determine whether the owner of the SUV was also its driver during the incident. The owner, who is from Quezon City, was identified through the SUV plate number, which was captured in the clip.
The SUV, a Mitsubishi Montero with plate number NFG 9505, has been placed under alarm. Additionally, once the driver has been identified, his license will be suspended for 90 days.
According to the LTO’s database, the SUV was last registered on February 22, 2022, in violation of Republic Act No. 4136.
Thus, the SCO orders the owner to explain why he should be spared the punishment for reckless driving, disregarding traffic signs, obstruction of traffic, being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, as well as having an expired registration.
