The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has launched an investigation into a viral incident involving a Korean national who went on a rampage in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II ordered the probe after a video surfaced showing the foreigner recklessly driving through Clark, running over a security guard's motorcycle and later crashing into a gasoline pump, which ignited a fire at a gasoline station.
"We assure the public that we will look into this and impose sanctions. Hindi katanggap-tanggap ito at dapat lang na maparusahan ang banyagang ito," Mendoza stated.
Initial police findings reveal that the Korean national, who works at a casino in Clark, had been on leave since October 19.
The incident took place at dawn on October 31, beginning when security guards found the driver unclothed inside his vehicle. He then attempted to escape, leading to a pursuit by security personnel.
During the chase, he allegedly struck a motorcycle ridden by a security guard, who fortunately was uninjured. He then proceeded to a gasoline station, where he deliberately collided with a fuel pump, causing a fire.
The Korean national is currently in police custody and faces multiple charges, including attempted homicide. The LTO investigation will also verify if he holds a Philippine driver’s license.
"If he has a Philippine driver’s license, then I will personally make sure that he will be punished according to our rules and regulations," Mendoza added.
As part of due process, Mendoza has directed the LTO Regional Office in Central Luzon to issue a Show Cause Order (SCO) to both the Korean driver and the registered owner of the SUV involved in the incident.
