The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show-cause order to the registered owners of a passenger jeepney and a dump truck involved in a viral road collision on Sumulong Highway in Antipolo City.
According to the LTO, both vehicle owners and their respective drivers are required to appear before the agency to clarify details surrounding the incident.
"We want to know the circumstances that led to the incident, particularly on why the passenger jeepney overshot the lane that led to this accident," said LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II.
The accident occurred last Saturday when a speeding jeepney crossed into the opposite lane, crashing into an oncoming dump truck. The collision also affected a nearby e-trike. As a result, nine people sustained injuries, including several students.
"The Show Cause Orders were already sent to the registered owners and we expect compliance from their part," said Asec Mendoza, adding that the probe is in line with the instruction of DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon to keep all roads safe.
Meanwhile, in the show-cause order issued by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante, the registered owners were directed to submit a notarized written explanation justifying why they should not be held accountable for hiring reckless drivers.
Both drivers have been charged with reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
"Failure to appear and submit your written answer will compel this Office to resolve the matter based on the available evidence on record," the SCO read.
