A man caught driving his SUV while on his feet and the car door open was issued a show cause order (SCO) by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the agency announced on Friday, April 3.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacalinao ordered the owner and driver of the Toyota Raize in a widely-circulated video to explain why they should not be punished in accordance with law.

In a Facebook video posted by “Dantoy TV” on Thursday, the driver can be seen standing while the car was in motion, with his torso outside and head above the vehicle, and the driver’s door open—a stunt in violation of traffic rules and could have placed the driver and other motorists in danger, said the LTO.

“Ang kanyang ginawa ay labag sa batas trapiko at maaaring magdulot ng aksidente sa kanya at sa ibang motorista,” the LTO declared.

Those involved are instructed to appear before the LTO’s Office of Intelligence and Investigation Division and submit a formal explanation, along with pertinent documents to prove a lack of culpability.

The driver may face charges related to reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. The agency warned that refusal to comply will prompt them to move forward with the case.

The LTO continues to monitor the roads to ensure the safety of travelers this Holy Week.

According to the netizen who shared the video, the driver was reprimanded by a security guard of a high-end hotel.
