The Land Transportation Office has 1.7 million unclaimed license plates in various regional offices but will require 1 million more to clear its backlog.
According to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, he previously requested that Land Transportation Office OIC Hector Villacorta conduct an inventory of all available license plates in order to assess the country's license plate backlog.
Bautista said the government is considering developing an app that will display all unclaimed license plates.
Those who have not yet received their license plates can use the app to find out which district office holds the plates by entering their name and plate number.
He also stated that the department is attempting to reduce the backlog of motorcycle license plates.
