LTO flags 41 motor vehicles amid 'no registration, no travel' policy

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday, Nov. 21, impounded 41 motorcycles in Metro Manila amid its strict implementation of the “no registration, no travel” policy.

According to the LTO, the National Capital Region (NCR) boasts the largest number of delinquent motor vehicles—with a huge chunk consisting of motorcycles. But LTO chief Vigor Mendoza maintained that the aggressive operations will be carried out nationwide.

LTO flags motor vehicles as “delinquent” as those who fail or intentionally refuse to have their vehicles registered.

“Napakaraming motorsiklo ang hindi rehistrado at batay sa ating record, marami sa mga ito ay hindi nakarehistro ng isa hanggang limang taon. Hindi natin papayagan ito at makakaasa ang ating mga kababayan na gagawa tayo ng mga aksyon upang mapilitan ang mga may-ari nito na magparehistro,” Mendoza said.

The LTO chief said their regional directors were coordinating with the Police Regional Offices of the Philippine National Police and traffic enforcement units of local government units (LGUs) to apprehend unregistered motorcycles.

LTO-Law Enforcement Section (LES) said it deplored enforces in areas where motorcycles tend to pass through, such as along Katipunan Avenue and along Aurora Boulevard.

“All the apprehended drivers were issued with citation tickets and all the motorcycles with no registration were impounded,” LTO enforcers added, citing its aggressive operation as in accordance with Mendoza’s directive.

The LTO chief said their campaign to have delinquent motor vehicles registered would ensure that vehicles passed the road-worthiness inspections, a requirement needed before the registration.

“The operation we conducted in Metro Manila should serve as a warning to all delinquent motor vehicle owners to register them in the soonest possible time. Huwag na ninyong hintayin pa na mahuli kayo dahil mas malalang problema ang kakaharapin ninyo,” he added.

LTO earlier announced its strict implementation of the “no registration, no travel” policy after losing over P37 billion in revenue following a staggering number of delinquent motorists.
