The Land Transportation Office (LTO) expects to run out of plastic driver's license cards by next week.
LTO executive director Giovanni Lopez said on Friday, April 21, that the agency still has around 147,000 plastic driver's license cards in various offices.
"Ang average use per day ay around 30,000. Ang pag-aaral namin by next week ay ubos na ang ating Driver's License cards," Lopez explained during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.
Lopez further revealed that the some district offices already exhausted their supply of plastic Driver's License cards as early as April 13.
On Thursday, April 20, LTO chief Jayart Tugade announced that the agency will roll-out temporary paper-based driver's documents due to a nationwide shortage in the supply of plastic cards.
"We will be printing (official receipt) ng driver's license. Doon sa OR ng driver's license, meron siyang unique QR code," Tugade said during a press conference.
"Sa likod ng OR, ni-require namin yung mga office namin ngayon na doon i-print yung driver's license, which would have been printed in the plastic cards," he added.
Lopez, meanwhile, advised the public to take a picture of their temporary driver's document rather than bringing it everywhere.
"Pwede na nilang i-picture sa cellphone nila basta masama yung QR code, at pwede na nilang ipakita iyan sa ating mga enforcer," the LTO official assured.
