The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said on Monday that it will soon launch a digitized version of the driver's license in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) amidst the shortage of plastic cards nationwide.
In a statement, LTO said motorists can access the digitized driver's license through the "Super app", a platform that will be developed by DICT.
"The advantage of the digital license is that motorists can present it to law enforcement officers during apprehension. It is equivalent to presenting the physical driver's license," LTO Chief Jay Art Tugade said as quoted by the agency.
Aside from accessing an online copy of their driver's license, LTO said motorists can also utilize the "Super App" for other transactions like registration, renewal, and online payments.
"Kaugnay naman ng usapin ng seguridad, nabatid mula kay Tugade na ang ginagamit na security features ng pisikal na driver's license ay kasama na rin sa digital na bersyon nito, maliban pa sa sariling security measures ng "super app," the agency noted.
According to Tugade, motorists can still present the printed temporary driver’s license if they choose to.
According to LTO, this move is part of their digitalization efforts in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
