The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) affirmed that the ongoing implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), or now known as Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP), will not be suspended anytime soon despite the presence of the Senate Resolution pushing for its immediate suspension.
In an exclusive interview with DZRH, LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III confirmed that the PTMP will proceed with its implementation.
Guadiz emphasized that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista ordered the continuous execution of the program.
"Ang direktiba po na ibinigay nya sa ating kalihim jaime Bautista na tuloy-tuloy daw po ang programa," Guadiz said during the interview.
"Tila po ang kinakatigan ng pangulo ngayon ay ‘yung modernisasyon," he added.
LTFRB Chair also reiterated that there is no reason to suspend the program.
On July 24, 22 senators signed the Proposed Senate Resolution No. 1096 which urged the government to immediately suspend the implementation of the PUVMP in order to address urgent concerns raised by relevant groups before proceeding with it.
Moreover, in order to show support for the PUVMP and to opposed the proposed suspension, different transport groups who already followed the implementation of the program conducted a unity walk on Monday.
