The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday said it is preparing to implement discounted fares for passengers of public utility vehicles (PUVs) in Metro Manila.
In a statement, LTFRB Chairman Teofilo 'Jojo' Guadiz III said they are planning to revert the minimum fare to the pre-pandemic fee of Php 9 from the current Php 12 in traditional jeepneys.
He said they are just waiting for the fund that will be provided by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the agency's Service Contracting Program (SCP).
“Pagkatapos niyan, tuloy-tuloy na ‘yung Service Contracting Program,” Guadiz added.
But he noted that the budget may last only for six months, the first half of 2023.
"So as early as now, I am requesting the DOTr to come up with additional funding para mapagkasya po namin hanggang sa katapusan ng taon ‘yung pera," Guadiz added.
The LTFRB chief expressed hope that the DOTr will grant their plea for additional funding.
Last January, the Guadiz first said that LTFRB will offer discounted fares instead of 'Libreng Sakay' or free rides in the EDSA Busway Carousel and in other transporation services due to budget constraints.
