The iconic designs of traditional jeepneys will be retained under the implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUV-MP), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said.
In a statement, LTFRB said its chairman Teofilo Guadiz III gave the assurance when they unveiled the design of the modernized jeepneys to the media on Tuesday morning.
"Gayunman, muling binigyang-diin ni LTFRB Chairman Guadiz na dapat ay pasado ito sa Philippine National Standards sa ilalim ng Bureau of Product Standards ng Department of Trade and Industry, anuman ang itsura ng jeep," it said.
According to the LTFRB, under BPS' Philippine National Standards, all jeepneys should have a high ceiling, the door should be placed on the right side of the drivers, and there should an exit point for passengers.
The agency said keeping the iconic design is also in line with the suggestion of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. to let the operations of traditional jeepneys that have good condition continue.
