The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) urged commuters on Monday, October 2, to report and file cases of sexual harassment in public utility vehicles (PUVs).
LTFRB issued its “Oplan Tuldukan ang Karahasan” in Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) by giving out stickers to public utility buses, public utility jeepneys, and taxis which have the phrase "Bawal ang Bastos" on them along with the numbers that victims should call when they experience sexual harassment.
In a report by RH Christian Maño, LTFRB technical division head Joel Bolano said that drivers or jeepney conductors proven to have sexually harassed passengers face either a fine of P5,000 or months of suspension.
This was in accordance with RA 11313 or "Bawal Bastos" law which aim to end sexual harassment in public spaces which include: catcalling, persistent unsolicited comments, requests for personal details, statement of sexual comments, flashing of private parts, verbal or physical advances, stalking, and constant telling of sexual jokes.
Bolano assured the public that they would protect the identity of the people who report incidents of sexual harassment in streets and public spaces.
