The Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 and 2 are set to implement a fare hike soon.
This comes after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the petition of the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1 and 2.
In the petition, the LRMC prayed to increase the train's boarding fare by Php 2.29 per kilometer and distance fare by 21 cents per kilometer.
In a statement on Thursday, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said the fare hike still needs the final approval of eight board of directors including the Department of Transportation, the Department of Finance, the Department of Budget and Management, the National Economic Development Authority, the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Metro Manila Development Authority, and two appointive directors.
Once approved, the boarding fare will increase to Php 13.29 from Php 11.00 and the distance by Php 1.21 from Php 1.00.
