As part of National Women’s Month celebrations, free rides will be available for women on LRT-2 and MRT-3 lines today, March 8.
"Bilang pagdiriwang ng buwan ng mga kababaihan na may temang 'Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas' handog ng Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) ang LIBRENG SAKAY para sa lahat ng babaeng pasahero," the LRTA said in its announcement on Friday.
Based on the announcement, female passengers can avail of free rides from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, and again from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
According to LRTA Administrator Atty. Hernando Cabrera, the free rides are just one of many offerings to honor women for their significant role in society.
"Pagpupugay sa lakas, tapang, at ambag ng bawat JUANA ngayong National Women's month," LRTA added.
In addition, the LRTA, in partnership with the Philippine Commission on Women, will also offer free haircuts on March 12 at the Antipolo station and on March 19 at the Araneta Center – Cubao station.
On the same note, MRT-3 will also be offering free rides to female passengers from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
General Manager Oscar Bongon stated that the free rides are a modest gesture from MRT-3 to express support for every woman and to pay tribute to their sacrifices for their families.
"Nawa ay magdulot ito ng kahit kaunting kaginhawaan sa kanila sa kanilang espesyal na araw," said Bongon.
MRT-3 management also distributed special tokens to female passengers on Friday in celebration of Women's Month.
