The Light Rail Transit - Line 1 (LRT-1) will operate for half-day this Sunday, August 20 to give way for a signaling system upgrade, its private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announced on Wednesday, August 16.
In an advisory, LRMC said the operation in the morning, from 4:30 AM to 11:59 AM is suspended.
"The half-day closure will give way to the activities for the continuous upgrade of the LRT-1 signaling system. This includes the installation of a new software baseline on the currently operating signaling system to be fully compatible with the LRT-1 Cavite Extension software baseline and facilitate the needed testing and commissioning of the system," it said.
According to the train's private operator, the upgrade will allow a full cutover for the extended signaling system from the Roosevelt Station in Quezon City to Dr. Santos Station in Paranaque City, the last station in the LRT-1 Cavite Extension – Phase 1.
LRMC said the LRT-1 Cavite Extension – Phase 1 is 90.1 percent ready as of the end of July 2023.
The train's private operator said the normal operation on Sunday will resume by 12 noon, and the last train will leave by 9:30 PM at Baclaran station and 9:45 PM at Roosevelt Station.
LRMC Chief Operating Officer Rolando Paulino III asked for the commuters' kind understanding.
"We aim to improve capacity and performance across the line, as well as enable more trains with better connections and greater reliability in anticipation of the much-awaited completion of Cavite Extension Phase 1," he said.
