Athletes and other official volunteers who are participating in the prestigious FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will be treated with a free ride in the Light Rail Transit System Line 1 (LRT-1) and Line 2 (LRT-2).

In an advisory, LRT-1’s private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) said the libreng sakay has began today, August 25, and will run until September 12.

Accredited media personnel, FIBA safety and security personnel, and FIBA technical and participating teams will also have the chance to avail the free ride.

According to LRMC, an individual will only be required to present his or her official FIBA World Cup pass to the LRT station’s security personnel.

In a separate advisory, LRT-2's private operator Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced that it is offering free rides for all FIBA national committee members, volunteers, staff, accredited media as well as players, coaches, and trainers.

The first day of the libreng sakay started last Wednesday and the last day is on September 12.

Those who will be availing of the free ride are likewise directed to present their official FIBA pass to the station's security personnel.

The opening of the international basketball game is set to take place in the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

More than 46,000 basketball enthusiasts and supporters are expected to watch.

This year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup is co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.
