The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Thursday that the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 will be open for public use in November.
“We hope that this opening of the extension of LRT-1 will help alleviate traffic as it will be able to support thousands of passengers. This will be our early Christmas gift to the residents of the area,” DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said during a press briefing.
The added section will be made available in a couple of weeks. It will span around six kilometers, with five stations newly appended: Redemptorist-Aseana Station, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos Station.
This extension links Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) in Parañaque City.
It will take just less than an hour to go from Quezon City to Parañaque City with the addition to Line 1, according to Light Rail Manila Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer Enrico Benipayo.
The extension is estimated to serve 80,000 passengers more every day for only its first year of operations, with the daily average number of passengers reaching 320,000.
Phase 2 of the LRT-1 Cavite extension starts at Las Piñas Station and ends at Zapote Station; Phase 3 will stop at Niog Station.
