The Cavite Extension of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) is 82.7 percent complete as of the end of March and it is on track to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2024, private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has announced.
In a press release on Friday, LRMC said the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is 82.7 percent complete in both civil works and rail system works.
According to the operator, five of the eight stations are in different stages of progress:
- Redemptorist Station - 56% complete
- Manila International Airport (MIA) Station - 61% complete
- Asia World - 51% complete
- Ninoy Aquino Station - 55% complete
- Dr. Santos Station - 60% complete
“We remain optimistic that we can start commercial operations of Phase 1 by the fourth quarter of 2024 highlighting the continuous milestones being achieved by our team," LRMC President and CEO Juan F. Alfonso said.
He said they target to finish all civil and equipment installation works this 2023 for them to commence the commissioning of the entire line next year.
The LRT-1's Cavite extension spans 11.7 kilometers from Baclaran Station in Pasay to Cavite.
The construction started last May 7, 2019. Once finished, it is expected to serve 800,000 passengers a day. The travel time from Pasay City to Cavite is estimated at 25 to 30 minutes.
