The low-pressure area (LPA) near east of Northern Luzon has developed into a tropical depression and was given a local name "Ineng" on Tuesday morning, September 5, according to the state weather bureau.

In its 5 AM monitoring, PAGASA said Ineng was located 925 kilometers (km) east of Extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

The tropical depression is slowly moving northward.

According to PAGASA's forecast, Ineng will travel in a generally northeastward or north northeastward direction, and will gradually intensify.

"It may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or tomorrow as a tropical storm," it added.

The state weather bureau said Ineng will not directly affect the country as it is expected to remain far from the landmass.

But PAGASA said Ineng will slightly enhance the southwest monsoon alongside Tropical Storm Haikui, or formerly known as Hanna.

Due to this, western portions of Luzon will experience occasional to monsoon rains in the next three days.
