The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring the likelihood of the low-pressure area (LPA) developing into a tropical depression this weekend.
According to the PAGASA public weather forecast issued at 3:00 AM on Friday, September 20, an LPA formed in the northern Philippine Sea and headed 745 kilometer east southeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
The analysis said that they are looking into the possibility of the LPA intensifying into a tropical depression in the coming weekend. The analysis found that the LPA will move northwest towards Taiwan, with a low chance of landfall.
Weather specialist Benison Estareja said that there is still a possibility of it intensifying into a tropical storm, which they would name ‘Igme’.
However, the PAGASA forecast said that people can expect rain in the western section of Luzon, specifically: Zambales, Bataan, and Ilocos Region due to the habagat.
For the remaining sections in Luzon, including Metro Manila, expect cloudy skies, with scattered rains/thunderstorms.
The provinces of Palawan and Samar will also experience scattered rains and thunderstorms brought by the southwest monsoon.
The region of Mindanao can expect fair weather conditions from morning until the afternoon. However, in the evening, there is a high possibility of rain in Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao region.
