The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Thursday, December 4, that the low-pressure area (LPA) previously monitored east of Eastern Visayas has developed into Tropical Depression ‘Wilma’.

"At 8:00 AM today (04 December), the Low Pressure Area located east of Eastern Visayas developed into Tropical Depression WILMA," PAGASA said.

As of 3:00 AM Thursday, the state weather bureau noted that Wilma, when it was still an LPA, had maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h.

PAGASA advised residents in areas likely to be affected by the tropical depression to prepare as rains are expected in the coming days.

Heavy Rainfall Outlook

Due to Shearline:

  • Today (December 4): 50-100 mm – Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon

  • Tomorrow (December 5): 50-100 mm – Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate

  • Saturday (December 6): 50-100 mm – Romblon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate

PAGASA also noted that rainfall could be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, and that some regions may experience worsened impacts due to significant antecedent rainfall.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to monitor updates from PAGASA and prepare for possible flooding and landslides.
