The total amount of losses in the hog business in Negros Occidental rose to P131,674,075 on Friday, according to a report from the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO).
Meanwhile, the office said the pig mortality from various illnesses in the province has reached 11,666 pigs, accounting for 8.90 percent of the province's hog population.
The deaths in 126 barangays in 16 of the province's 31 local governments have affected 2,211 hog raisers. As a result, more local governments in Negros Occidental have ordered prohibitions on the importation of pigs and pork products from other towns and cities in the province while they boost biosecurity measures.
Himamaylan and San Carlos cities, as well as the municipalities of Hinigaran, La Castellana, Isabela, and Moises Padilla, are among the most recent to issue such orders.
Cases of the fatal and extremely contagious African swine fever have been verified in Bacolod City, Victorias City, and Pulupandan town in Negros Occidental.
