The Lord of the Rings cast paid tribute to co-star Bernard Hill, who passed away at the age of 79 on Sunday morning.
The actors who played the four hobbits in the film trilogy, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd told Liverpool Comic Con fans that they "lost a member of [their] family."
Hill was supposed to make an appearance in the event but canceled.
Hill's co-stars reflected on his passing onstage.
"So we lost a member of our family this morning, Bernard Hill passed, King Théoden. So we want to take a moment before we walk off the stage to honour him," said Astin, who had the role of Samwise Gamgee, Frodo's devoted companion.
"We love him. He was intrepid, he was funny, he was gruff, he was irascible, he was beautiful," he added.
Boyd, who played Peregrin "Pippin" Took, recalled "watching the movies and I said to Dom, I don’t think anyone spoke Tolkien’s words as great as Bernard did. He would break my heart. He will be solely missed."
Wood posted on X (formerly Twitter), to say, "We will never forget you."
So long to our friend, our king, Bernard Hill.

We will never forget you.
“For he was a gentle heart and a great king and kept his oaths; and he rose out of the shadows to a last fair morning.”
