According to The Straits Times, the lucky winner is reportedly a manager within the company, and was filmed in a viral video holding a cheque that read "365 days of paid leave".
Reports indicate that the winner was quite shocked upon hearing the news, and repeatedly sought clarification to confirm that the prize was indeed real.
Even the boss of the company was surprised that someone had won such a prize.
The company had not held its annual dinner for three years due to the pandemic, and this year, they decided to hold a lucky draw as a means of providing their employees with some much-needed relief from work-related stress.
Ms. Chen, an administrative employee at the company, confirmed that the winner frequently travels as part of his job responsibilities. The company plans to discuss with him whether he would like to take his paid leave or encash it.
The news of the prize has raised envy among Chinese netizens, but some have raised practical concerns about the unusual nature of the prize. One commenter questioned whether the winner would still have a job to return to after a full year's absence.
However, this is not the first time that a Chinese company has offered such a prize.
Back in January of 2022, a sales employee from another Shenzhen-based company also won a year's worth of paid leave and even donated a portion of it to local charities while converting the remainder to cash.
