Disney finally found its 'Lilo' for the live-action of Lilo & Stitch!
The newcomer Hawaiian actress Maia Kealoha will play Lilo Pelekai — the young girl who befriends Stitch and helps him change his ways. She will be joining Zach Galifianakis for the 2022 remake of a classic animated film.
In 2018, the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch started its development as Disney's 42nd animated film, which debuted in 2002.
The movie was well-liked and has since become a favorite of many people. Stitch has subsequently grown to be another well-known Disney mascot.
The remake will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, with Ryan Halprin as executive producer. Dean Fleischer Camp will direct the film and will be written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright.
There hasn't been much stated about it, but the remake is likely going to follow the same plot of the original film — a Hawaii-centric story about the friendship that developed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch who was created to be a destructive force.
The two come together over a shared sense of family and save the day in the face of prying social workers and chasing aliens.
