The viral mobile game sensation, ‘Flappy Bird’ has risen from its decade-long slumber and is ready to reclaim its throne in casual gaming.
At the time of its peak, the mobile game took the world by storm, accumulating more than 50 million downloads globally. Its interface added to the public's interest, as gaming streamers and casual people were all enticed by its simple yet addicting nature.
In February 2014, Creator Dong Nguyen pulled Flappy Bird out of the App Store and Google Play Store due to it being an ‘addictive product.’ Despite the game making thousands of dollars, Nguyen was constantly criticized for making such a game, as it triggered lots of players. He was also frequently at the center of media attention, as many spoke out against the game's addicting nature.
“I can call Flappy BIrd a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it,” he said.
Flappy Bird's comeback comes with an expanded version, and will be available across multiple platforms like web browsers, and an iOS and Android version. The Flappy Bird Foundation, a team of passionate fans committed to bringing the game back to life, said that they are aiming to launch the game by the end of October 2025.
The game's comeback was announced on its official X account on Thursday, September 12.
