

In an unexpected turn of events, several members of the Gilas Pilipinas squad were trapped inside the elevator of their hotel in Qatar.
Calvin Oftana shared the incident in a Facebook reel, showing the national team's players, including June Mar Fajardo, AJ Edu, Dwight Ramos, CJ Perez, Mason Amos, and Kevin Quiambao, trapped in a malfunctioning elevator.
The seven Gilas players kept their cool and even laughed off the tense situation, which ended when an elevator technician arrived to pull them out one by one.
“We survived!” the Gilas players exclaimed after being safely rescued from the lift.
The Philippine national team is in Qatar to compete in the 2nd Doha International Cup, scheduled from February 15 to 17, where they will face the host nation, Lebanon, and Egypt.
Fortunately, the elevator malfunction didn’t occur close to Gilas' scheduled game against Qatar.
Gilas Pilipinas mounted an exciting comeback to secure its first victory in the 2nd Doha International Cup, edging out Qatar, 74-71, in a thrilling debut early Saturday morning (Manila time).
Their next game is set for 11 PM (Manila time) against Lebanon.
