Anthony Jennings is taking center stage for his debut lead role in Sonny Calvento’s upcoming horror-comedy-drama film, Mother Maybe!
Calvento expressed his admiration for Jennings’ acting, describing that the latter has a “natural charm that makes him so easy to watch.”
Moreover, Calvento mentioned that Jennings can make audiences feel emotions through the screen, citing his impeccable balance of comedic timing and emotional depth.
According to an American trade magazine, the film follows Marco (Jennings), a young man who reunites with his absent mother in a high-stakes Asian game show. Since the film blends reality with supernatural horror, Marco later discovers his mother’s terrifying secret: that she transforms into something monstrous at night.
The film is a bold introspection into the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) experience, exploring the complex emotional toll of immigration and the Asian diaspora.
Meanwhile, Calvento mentioned that the film is a deeply personal project for him, as it is a tribute to his mother.
Speaking with the American magazine, he said, “My family deviates from the traditional close-knit Filipino structure. My mother left when I was two, and talking about her was forbidden at home.”
“At its heart, this film is my tribute to my mother. A monster separates us, but perhaps, through this story, I can bring us closer again,” he added.

Jennings gained recognition for his supporting role as Snoop Manansala in the local romantic drama series, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” alongside his on-screen partner Maris Racal.
He appeared in various projects like “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” “Incognito,” and “Sosyal Climbers.”
Meanwhile, Calvento is known for directing the 2019 social satire, “Excuse Me Miss, Miss, Miss.”
