Actress LJ Reyes has revealed more details on her split from ex-boyfriend Paolo Contis and why she made the choice of leaving him despite their years-long relationship.
“The past two months have been revelation after revelation,” LJ said in an interview with Boy Abunda that premiered via YouTube on Wednesday, September 1.
“Sa gabi nagpapatulog sa kin ay praise and worship. Minsan binabangungot na ako, paano nangyari ‘yung mga bagay na nangyari? 'Di ko na mahiwalay ‘yung reality na nalaman ko, na information ng revelation sa mga tao sa paligid ko na uncover ko," she continued.
Reyes, who is currently in the US with her two children, said that although she was the first one to formally end their 6-year relationship, she already noticed a change in Paolo’s behavior late last year. From being a homebody, Paolo was suddenly always out of the house.
“Matagal ko nang nararamdaman na matagal na siyang nakahiwalay sa amin, pero honestly ako yung nagsabi na parang… parang nasa ibang mundo na po siya at pakiramdam ko eh hinihintay niya lang na sa akin manggaling,” LJ stated.
The actress shares a child with Paolo, 2-year-old Summer. LJ also has a child from her previous relationship with fellow actor Paulo Avelino, 11-year-old Aki, who seemingly grown close to Paolo during the span of their relationship.
According to LJ, people would message her about seeing Paolo out and when she would confront the actor about it, he would only question how people would recognize him since he's wearing a facemask and a face shield.
“‘Pag babae ka, or kahit sino pong nagmamahal na tao, kapag nagmamahal ka, alam mo. At 'pag kilala mo ang tao, alam mo,” she said.
LJ also revealed that after her breakup with Paolo, she asked him if he would take her and her kids back to which the actor said no.
“Umabot sa point na nag-break kami pero after a few days, na-realize ko na hindi pwedeng ganito (kasi) may mga bata,” she said. “Nagbaba po ako ng pride kahit alam kong ako yung nasasaktan. Titiisin ko po para sa mga bata. Iniisip ko baka kailangan nila ng complete family."
“Tinanong ko siya if he wants to take us back pero hindi na raw,” the actress said in tears.
That incident was their last conversation as she already cut communication with him.
When asked if a third party is involved, LJ didn’t give a straight answer but said, “other people would be able to answer that.”
As of posting, Paolo is also no longer part of LJ’s following list on her Instagram account.
Fans of the couple first speculated Contis and Reyes breakup after the actor removed all of the actress' photos on his Instagram account last week. He also unfollowed everyone on the platform.
Lolit Solis, who is Contis' manager, then confirmed the breakup of the couple, noting that there's no third party involved.
“Walang 3rd party sa hiwalayang Paolo Contis at LJ Reyes. It was a matter of na-outgrow na nila ang romance sa kanilang relasyon,” she wrote while also sharing photo of Contis and his fellow "A Faraway Land" co-star Yen Santos.
"Kesa naman humantong pa sa pag aaway, mas gusto na nila na maghiwalay ng maayos, at dasal na mag end as friends," she continued.
