A player from the Familia Chocca soccer team was fatally struck by lightning during a match in Huancayo, Peru, on Sunday, November 3, leaving five others injured.
According to a report by The Sun, the incident occurred as Familia Chocca played Juventud Bellavista, with the game paused due to a thunderstorm.
As players were exiting the field, lightning struck 39-year-old Hugo de la Cruz Meza, killing him instantly and injuring five other players.
Goalkeeper Juan Chocca Llacta, 40, also received a direct strike and was taken to the hospital with serious burns.
