The local government unit of Sagbayan in Bohol revoked the business authorization of The Captain's Peak Garden and Resort, which was built in the middle of Chocolate Hills, a recognized national geological monument.
In a statement, the resort's management expressed their "profound disappointment" following the Sagbayan Government's move to revoke its business permit.
"We must inform you of the recent revocation of our business permit for The Captain's Peak Garden and Resort by the local government of Sagbayan. This unexpected development comes as a profound disappointment to us all," the statement read.
"However, in the face of adversity, our commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Bohol, particularly the iconic Chocolate Hills, remains steadfast," it furthered.
The Captain's Peak Garden and Resort announced on Wednesday the temporary closure of the resort after drawing flak on social media.
The management, however, assured that it is "actively exploring all available avenues to address this issue and is hopeful for a swift resolution."
The resort went viral after a three-minute viral video, uploaded by video creator Ren The Adventurer on his Facebook page on March 6, showed a landscape view of the resort, located in the country's famous tourist spot.
Netizens called out the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DENR) and the national government for allowing the establishment to be built in the area.
However, according to the DENR, a temporary closure order was issued to the resort in September 2023 as well as a violation notice in January 2024.
Senator Nancy Binay, meanwhile, filed a resolution urging proper senate committees to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation on the viral resort.
