Solar Philippines, founded by businessman-turned-politician Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste, is facing around ₱24 billion in penalties following for failing to deliver on its commitment to produce nearly 12,000 megawatts (MW) worth of renewable energy (RE) capacity, the Department of Energy (DOE) said.
In a press briefing, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said nearly 12,000 megawatts (MW) worth of power supply contracts awarded to Solar Philippines were terminated in 2024 and 2025.
According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, Garin said the contracts were revoked due to the company’s failure to comply with contractual obligations.
Garin emphasized that the government is committed to allowing only legitimate and serious investors to participate in the country’s energy sector.
Solar Philippines accounted for the bulk of the cancelled capacity, making it the single largest contributor to the terminated RE contracts during the 2024–2025 period, according to DOE data.
