The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) filed charges of Sedition and Inciting to Sedition with the Department of Justice against Atty. Israelito Torreon, legal counsel for Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy, along with 12 others.
PNP-CIDG Director PBGen. Nicolas Torre III led the filing of charges against Torreon and other members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC).
"Aside sa mga specific na mga offenses or acts na against sa mga individual officers, mayroon talaga as collectively na ginawa nila against the government itself, so 'yun ang papasok sa Sedition and Inciting to Sedition," Torre said during an interview with the media after filing the cases on Thursday.
The basis of the PNP-CIDG's complaint includes the protest conducted by members of the KOJC on the streets, which violated the government's permit allowing only a prayer rally within the KOJC compound.
"Initially, ang mga in-alleged namin doon 'yung kanilang mga ginawa like calling on the people to rise against the government, to prevent the police from serving the warrant of arrest, and many other," said Torre.
The complaint also cites the blocking of vehicles and the obstruction of authorities attempting to arrest Quiboloy, during which some police officers were injured.
On September 8, the religious leader and self-proclaimed "appointed son of God" fell into the hands of authorities after weeks of manhunt operation led by Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 11 officers, in hopes of serving his arrest warrant.
