South Korean actress Lee Young-ae was confirmed to reprise her popular role as Dae Jang Geum from the K-drama classic “Jewel in the Palace” after two decades.
In a Soompi report on Tuesday, January 30, entertainment company Fantagio said the historical drama with the working title “Dae Jang Geum” would begin filming in October, adding that it plans to air the series early next year.
According to Korea Times, “Dae Jang Geum” will follow the story of Jang-geum being the king’s first female physician.
Fantagio added that the upcoming drama was made “even more meaningful” because this year’s filming would mark the 20th anniversary since “Jewel in the Palace” first aired in 2003.
"Jewel in the Palace" is centered around an orphaned girl, Jang-geum, who became the first female royal physician during her time. The drama reached 45.8 ratings in South Korea, becoming a hit drama globally.
