Leaving DOF ‘mutual feelings,’ says Magno
by Daylight Abas15 September 2023

Former Department of Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno said on Friday that leaving the department is alleged to be due to ‘mutual feelings.'

In an interview with DZRH, Magno said that DOF Secretary Benjamin Diokno received a text message instructing him to remove her from the position following Magno’s posted video about the price cap on rice.

"So, noong nagkaroon ng issue sa usapin tungkol sa rice price cap, di ako naghesitate na i-post ang aking supply and demand graph," she explained.

"Kasi itong simpleng supply and demand graph, isa ito sa tools na ginagamit natin sa pagturo ng economics," she continued.

According to Magno, she had a talk with Diokno, and on the same day, she submitted her resignation letter. She continued that she received a letter from Malacanang where it stated that the appointment had expired.

"Nakatanggap na ng text message si Sec. Diokno with the same instruction na tanggalin ako bilang Usec. Nagkausap kami and I said na I'm resigning. On the same day, I submitted my letter of resignation. Wednesday yun, then Friday we received the letter from the Palace saying that my appointment has expired," she further explained.

In July, the former Finance Undersecretary said that someone notified Diokno to remove her from the position after some people forwarded screenshots of her Facebook posts back in 2016 to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who had knowledge of various matters in the government.

She explained the importance of having a clean conscience on her part as she truthfully and responsibly fulfilled her duty as a finance undersecretary, saying that she never compromised her principles even if it would hurt the President’s feelings.
