by Kristan Carag23 June 2023

The camp of Jose Adrian 'Jad' Dera denied that he left the detention center managed by the National Bureau on Investigation in order to go on a date.

Atty. Raymund Palad, the legal counsel of Dera, said on Thursday, June 22, that his client left the detention center due to medical reasons.

"Ang sinasabi niya ay naghanap sila ng doctor, ng gamot na mabibili dahil may previous medical issues na siya na nag-palpitate yung kanyang heart. Ilang beses na siyang nadala sa hospital," Palad said during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.

"Yung mga emergency issues na iyan ay pwedeng dalhin iyan kahit na walang court order lalo na kapag nangyari ng gabi," he explained.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that authorities apprehended Dera and six NBI security personnel on Tuesday, June 20, while returning to the detention facility.

Dera faces charges for his alleged involvement in the alleged conspiracy that allowed high-profile prisoners at the New Bilibid Prison to continue their illegal drug operations during the tenure of then-DOJ Sec. Leila De Lima.

NBI filed criminal charges against Dera for allegedly bribing his guards so that he can leave the detention facility for around four hours.

The agency also filed criminal charges against the security personnel for alleged violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, as well as committing infidelity in the custody of prisoners.
