A legislator commended the Commission on Elections’ (COMELEC) disciplinary response following recent incidents of indecent campaigning.
In a report by RH 12 Milky Rigonan, Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong praised the COMELEC’s move as rational and apt, as the offending candidates do not set a good example for voters and children alike.
COMELEC has already issued two show cause orders against Pasig’s lone district congressional aspirant Atty. Christian “Ian” Sia for his coarse single mothers joke, and a second for his demeaning remark about his female assistant’s weight.
Additionally, Manila 3rd District Councilor candidate Mocha Uson has received a letter from the poll body expressing their concern over the sexual undertones of her “cookie” campaign jingle.
Adiong said he trusts that the Anti-Discrimination and Fair Campaign Resolution issued by COMELEC is an effective way to ensure candidates communicate their platforms without resorting to indecent speech, particularly speech dishonoring women.
The congressman also hopes the COMELEC will not have to reprimand any more candidates, who are expected to be role models for their constituents.
