Quezon City 5th District Rep. Patrick Michael “PM” Vargas welcomed the ratification of the measure declaring January 6 as “Tandang Sora Day.”
On Wednesday, the lawmaker expressed his delight with the Congress and Senate’s recognition of the proposed measure. The act declares January 6 every year as a special working holiday in Quezon City.
House Bill No. 5850 will be known as “Tandang Sora Day,” in commemoration of the Filipino hero’s birth anniversary.
Vargas also highlighted the significance of Novaliches in history, as it served as the home of the Katipunan tree, the place where Tandang Sora attended to the sick and wounded. The lawmaker added that the special working day is also meant to celebrate and recognize the women from various fields, who played a significant role in nation-building.
The Congress ratified the bill on its third and final reading and was amended by the Senate on December 17, 2024.
Tandang Sora was born Melchora Aquino and is known as the “Mother of the Katipunan” for providing food, shelter, and care to the Katipuneros, despite her old age.
