Cavite 4th District Representative Elpidio Barzaga Jr. seeks an inquiry on the capsizing of oil tanker MT Princess Empress last February 28 at the waters off Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

Barzaga filed House Resolution No. 829 on Monday, March 6, in order to investigate the sinking of the one-year-old vessel and the oil spill related to the incident.

The congressman mentioned that MT Princess Empress spilled 800,000 liters of industrialized fuel, which affected 10 municipalities in Oriental Mindoro.

Barzaga mentioned that the oil spill could also affect the coastal areas of Palawan, Antique, and Romblon.

"Additionally, the oil spill might affect 20,000 hectares of coral reef, 9,900 hectares of mangroves, and 6,000 hectares of seagrass and could possibly coat the marine habitats and animals," the resolution read.
