A lawmaker cautioned former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea about releasing information or updates about former President Rodrigo Duterte’s health.

The report by RH 12 Milky Rigonan on Friday stated that House Deputy Majority Leader and Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Garin said Medialdea may have purposely reported they could not find Duterte upon his arrival in the Netherlands to evoke emotions from the latter’s supporters.

Garin suspects the former executive secretary may have done this on purpose to anger Duterte’s supporters, as the latter is held at The Hague, Netherlands. She also mentioned the possibility of Medialdea being confused about the situation.

Suspicions from the lawmaker emerged after she compared her experience working with the Dutch government, specifically its Parliamentary Network on the World Bank. Garin asserted that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is “very considerate,” especially if it concerns someone’s health. She added how the institution will provide food, medication, and medical attention to the people inside the facility.

Reports about Duterte circulated on Thursday after he was turned over to the ICC. According to Medialdea, they could not locate the former president and were worried due to his sickly figure. He also claimed Duterte was not provided with food and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Garin reacted to the news and cautioned the public not to spread fake news. Instead, they can pray for the former president’s health as he begins trial for crimes against humanity.
