President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has appointed suspended lawyer Larry Gadon as the Presidential Adviser for poverty alleviation, Malacañang announced on Monday.
According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Gadon — who was suspended in January 2022 by the Supreme Court after verbally abusing journalist Raissa Robles — will work closely with government agencies and non-government organizations to address the roots of poverty.
"President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Lorenzo ‘Larry’ G. Gadon as Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation. His appointment reflects the government’s commitment to address one of the most pressing challenges faced by our nation," their statement read.
PCO also listed down Gadon's experience as a corporate executive and legal counsel in diverse sectors, believing that it will contribute to the formulation of innovative and sustainable poverty alleviation strategies.
His 2022 suspension was not the first time. In 2019, Gadon was also suspended for three months for his controversial remarks and "malicious and arrogant language" that he made against an adverse party and her lawyer.
Gadon ran in the senatorial elections under the UniTeam slate of then-standard bearer Marcos and his then-running mate Sara Duterte.
