Lando Norris clinched his first Formula 1 World Championship on Dec. 7 after a dramatic season finale at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, ending Max Verstappen’s four-year dominance at the top of the sport.
Although Verstappen crossed the finish line first for Red Bull, it wasn’t enough to overturn Norris’s championship lead. McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri finished second, while Norris secured the final podium spot, just 12.5 seconds behind the race winner.
At 26 years old, Norris becomes the 11th British driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship, finishing the season with 423 points. Verstappen ended with 421 points, and Piastri with 410.
Norris was visibly emotional as he celebrated the biggest achievement of his career. He later shared the moment with fans on Instagram, captioning his post: “Best day of our lives.”
