Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez denied on Sunday that his office is making people sign up to be beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment's Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) program.
"Nais nating linawin na walang katotohanan na nagpapalista para sa TUPAD ang aking tanggapan," Hernandez stated on a Facebook post.
(We want to clarify that there is no truth that my office is asking people to sign up for TUPAD.)
According to Hernandez, the sign-up sheet is reportedly circulating across different towns in Laguna, asking for names and Voter's IDs so they can be signed up under TUPAD program.
"May ilan po tayong kalalawigan na sinubukang magpalista at magpasa ng kanilang Voter's ID na nadismaya sa akin dahil mayroon na daw nauna sa listahan at hindi sila maisasama dito," said the governor.
(We have several citizens who tried signing up and passed their Voter’s ID and were disappointed because there were other people already on the list and they were not included.)
The official reminded the public to be vigilant when it comes to such acts especially with the election coming up.
"Siguraduhin na makipag-ugnayan lamang po tayo sa mga lehitimong ahensya ng gobyerno tungkol sa mga programa ng pamahalaan," he said.
(Make sure to only coordinate with legitimate government agencies on the programs of the government.)
Hernandez is running for a third term in Laguna for the upcoming May national and local elections.
