The water level in Laguna de Bay has surpassed its critical high threshold of 12.50 meters, reaching 12.51 meters as of 10:00 AM today, July 24, according to the latest update from the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).
The increase in water level brought by the continuous rains caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) and typhoons within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has raised concerns over potential flooding in lakeshore and low-lying communities.
Authorities warned that with persistent rainfall in the coming days, flood risks may further intensify. Even if the rains subside, it could take months for the lake’s water to return to normal levels, prolonging the risk of flooding and damage in vulnerable areas.
LLDA is urging the communities nearby to take precautionary measures to prepare for possible evacuations and implement protective measures.
Also stated in their online post, Local Government Units (LGUs) and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) have been advised to activate contingency plans, ensure emergency supplies are in place, and maintain coordination with LLDA and other concerned agencies.
The public is also urged to stay informed through official updates and avoid activities near the lake during this period.
LLDA wrote in the caption that they are in a high alert status and are continuously monitoring the lake.
