Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan said she is giving former Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso time to reconsider seeking the mayoral post in the City of Manila.
Growing speculations are arising that the former Manila Mayor will pursue a mayoral bid in 2025 after Isko Moreno shared, on Facebook, a reel where he interacts with the contituents in the city. The post have a caption of "Laging may awa ang Diyos. #TimeWillTell."
In a statement released on Wednesday, Lacuna mentioned that she is confident that she and Moreno are both dedicated to serving the Manileños, but mentioned that she will give him time to reconsider his plans.
"I respect the decision of former Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, while also acknowledging that he still has time to reconsider his plans," she added.
The first female mayor of Manila acknowledges that the Election 2025 will be a test for the Manileños to weigh her character, leadership, service, and vision for the city.
"This is part of our commitment to democratic principles. We are here not for personal ambition but for the welfare of the Manileños and the honor of our nation, represented by Manila as its capital," Lacuna said.
Lacuna emphasized that her "sibling love" for her former running mate will remain.
"As his Ate in public service, I am here to guide him," she said.
"Despite any political circumstances, I remain Ate Honey to Isko because in Manila, love of family endures," she added.
Despite the continued discussion on politics, nearing the filing of certificates, Lacuna vowed to prioritize the needs of the people.
"This focus will remain until the filing of candidacies and beyond, if the trust of Manila in our leadership continues," Lacuna said.
Moreno served the City of Manila as mayor-elect in the 2019 polls with Lacuna as the vice mayor.
In 2022, Moreno ran for president and endorsed the mayoral bid of Lacuna in Manila.
