Rizal 4th District Representative and Chairman of House Committee on Labor and Employment Fidel Nograles mentioned that the issues and solutions present in the labor sector must be mentioned in President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Rep. Nograles believes that the labor sector is crucial to the economy and livelihood of every Filipino worker.
The representative argued that issues related to wages are not the only significant problem that must be mentioned, but also the protection and welfare of workers in their respective workplaces.
A report release by Remote, a global human resource services firm, prompted Nograles to mention this matter.
Based on the report, the Philippines ranked 59th out of 60 countries in the work-life balance index.
Manila is just ahead of Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, which has the lowest work-life balance index. According to Nograles, this is a concerning matter.
The study looks into the average working hours per week, minimum wages, annual leave policies, sick pay, maternity leave, healthcare, and other factors in the 60 countries with high gross domestic product.
