Several labor groups protested on Wednesday to demand P100 wage increase outside the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City where labor officials attended the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board's (RTWPB) public hearing.
During the march, protesters ate kangkong and tokwa and called for a P100 pay rise immediately.
Partido Manggagawa (PM) secretary general Judy Miranda said that the RTWPB should approve the wage hike if it wants to calm the Mayon Volcano, adding that workers are suffering from starvation.
In December last year, the Kapatiran ng mga Unyon at Samahang Manggagawa petitioned for a P100 raise in the daily take-home pay of Metro Manila's minimum wage laborers.
Workers in Calabarzon, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas have petitioned for wage increases.
Miranda stated that as of January 2023, employees in Metro Manila had lost P88 in the value of the P570 minimum wage owing to inflation.
She refuted businesses' claims that raising wages would lead to increased inflation and massive unemployment.
