The La Mesa Nature Reserve and La Mesa Ecopark will be temporarily closed starting February 13, according to the ABS-CBN Foundation and the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).
In a joint statement issued Thursday, February 9, it was said that the temporary cessation would give way for the turnover of the La Mesa Nature Reserve and La Mesa Ecopark's management from the ABS-CBN Foundation to the MWSS.
"The handover aligns with the Integrated Watershed Management Roadmap for Angat, Ipo, and La Mesa (IWMRAIL) led by MWSS, which ensures the protection and preservation of the three watersheds," they added.
ABS-CBN Foundation reportedly maintains and protects the La Mesa Nature Reserve and La Mesa Ecopark for almost 25 years.
Employees affected by the temporary closure will be receiving severance packages.
"Lubos ang aming pasasalamat sa aming mga empleyado, partners, donors, at tagasuporta sa kanilang mahahalagang kontribusyon sa pagpapalago ng La Mesa Watershed sa loob halos 25 na taon," the managements ended.
The La Mesa Ecopark is said to be 33 hectares of land wherein families can do various recreational activities such as exercising, hiking, biking, fishing, and more.
The La Mesa Nature Reserve or La Mesa Watershed, meanwhile, is reportedly a 2,700 hectares of land where the La Mesa Dam, which supplies the water in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, is located.
